BIOGRAPHY
Johnny Mathews III is a Brooklyn-based dancer, choreographer, and artist from Madison, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with a BFA in dance and a minor in Performing Arts Management and Entrepreneurship. Mathews was a guest artist with danceTactics and was in rehearsals with Mari Meade Dance Collective before the pandemic. He has performed works by Maxine Doyle, Johannes Wieland, Ohad Naharin, Shannon Gillen, Meredith Monk, among other prestigious choreographers. Mathews attended Springboard Danse Montreal 2019 where he was in creative processes with Doyle and Simona Desconescu. Additionally, he has attended the B12 Dance Festival, Batsheva and Gaga Intensive in Tel Aviv, Sidra Bell’s Summer and Winter Module, and Urban Bush Women’s Summer Leadership Institute. As a choreographer, he has presented works at The Craft NY in Brooklyn, ACDA Adjudicated Concerts, the Mendelssohn Theatre, and the University of Michigan Museum of Art. Mathews is currently investigating his personal movement research practices to develop a strong teaching style and choreographic creation model.
